Cancer & Exercise Experience for Dale

I am in the home stretch of my time in Vancouver, Canada. We moved our family here for my husband’s Urology Fellowship.

It has been an amazing experience from all aspects. Professionally I felt it was time to add a new specialisation to my Exercise Physiology knowledge. I chose Cancer rehabilitation.

More and more evidence is being published that shows the benefits of exercise during and after Cancer treatment. Many of the side effects of Cancer treatment mimic the ageing process, such as fatigue, reduced muscle mass, increased incidence of falls, and reduced range of movement. Research has shown that exercise can have a positive effect on these, and many other side effects.

I have been lucky enough to work with Joanne Morgan at Back on Track in Vancouver who is the leading provider of Cancer exercise recovery programs in British Columbia. Joanne has been very generous with her teaching, and I am learning all the time.
One project we are working on is the Prostate Cancer Surviourship program. I will tell you more about this soon.

I am also about to achieve my certification as a Cancer Exercise Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine.
